Sophia Alawi (She/her/hers) is a bi-coastal actress who frequently travels between New York City and San Francisco. Originally from Hudson County, New Jersey, Sophia is a proud first generation Moroccan-Italian American who was raised Muslim. She grew up with the view of New York City emulating her big dreams. A Jersey girl at heart, she is a graduate of Rider University Magna Cum Laude with a BFA in Musical Theater.
Over the years, Sophia continued to refine her craft at studios like Stella Adler, The Barrow Group, & T’ Schreiber in NYC. In 2019 she began her journey as a writer and has dedicated herself to creating stories for the MENA community which is one of the most under represented groups in the industry. She conceived, ‘Hayawan’ in 2020 and has been developing the story and sharing the journey online ever since.
2019 was also the year that got her to the Bay Area where she fell in love with the coastal town of Half Moon Bay, where she has plans to open an Arts Collective & School. She has immersed herself in the theater community in the Bay Area and has been working there part-time as a Teaching Artist and Vocal Coach.
She won the San Francisco Bay Area Theater Critics Circle Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 2019 for Groundhog Day. The Musical and was named one of “five standout performances” in 2019 by the Houston Chronicle for the role of Wendla in Spring Awakening. She is also a 2022 Theater Bay Area’s RHE Artistic Fellowship Nominee. She started the year off strong with work on Season 24 of Law & Order SVU.
Sophia is a big fan of astrology(Leo Sun and Pisces Moon) and long walks on beaches(seriously). She prides herself on having a whimsical witchy and rustic aesthetic. XOXO to everyone who have actually read this far.
