Sophia Alawi (She/her/hers) is originally from Hudson County, New Jersey, Sophia is a proud first generation Moroccan-Italian American. She is an actor, writer, and song-writer. Despite being surrounded by the skyline of New York City, she’ll always be a Jersey girl at heart.She is a graduate of Rider University Magna Cum Laude with a BFA in Musical Theater. Sophia Alawi also works part-time as a Teaching Artist and Vocal Coach.

Over the years, Sophia continued to refine her craft at studios like Stella Adler, The Barrow Group, & T’ Schreiber in NYC. In 2019 she began her journey as a writer and has dedicated herself to creating stories for the MENA community which is one of the most under represented groups in the industry. She conceived, ‘Hayawan’ in 2020 and has been developing the story and sharing the journey online ever since. 

She won the San Francisco Bay Area Theater Critics Circle Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 2019 for Groundhog Day The Musical and was named one of “Five Standout Performances” in 2019 by the Houston Chronicle for the role of Wendla in Spring Awakening. She was also a 2022 Theater Bay Area’s RHE Artistic Fellowship Nominee. TV credits include a Co Star role on season 24 of Law & Order SVU. 

Sophia Alawi is a dynamic creative force whose talents extend beyond the realms of theater and writing. In addition to writing plays and screenplays, Sophia is also a gifted musician, recently making her release of her first single, “Attachment Theory,” on March 22nd, 2024. Currently, she is immersed in the production of her first album, pouring her heart into creating a blend of different music styles with meaningful lyrics. With a focus on embracing diversity and delving into complexities of human emotions, Sophia hopes her art will resonate with audiences across various mediums.

Sophia is a big fan of astrology(Leo Sun and Pisces Moon) and long walks on beaches(seriously). She prides herself on having a whimsical witchy vibe.  XOXO to everyone who have actually read this far!
